Split the over-centralized ConfigPage into focused, composable layers:
1. useTabRouter hook: Encapsulates tab state management and URL synchronization
- Maintains selected tab and active item (e.g., jail name)
- Syncs state to location.state for deep linking and browser history
- Supports bookmarkable URLs and back/forward navigation
2. ConfigPageContainer: Orchestrates tab navigation
- Manages TabList and routes tab selection events
- Conditionally renders tab content panels
- Delegates domain-specific logic to tab components
3. ConfigPage: Focused page layout component
- Renders page structure (header, title, description)
- Delegates tab orchestration to ConfigPageContainer
- No routing or tab state logic
Benefits:
- Page is now 30 lines vs 125 lines (76% reduction)
- Tab state management is reusable for other multi-tab pages
- Each tab component remains focused on domain-specific UI
- Deep linking and browser history work out of the box
- Easier to test and maintain
Added comprehensive tests:
- useTabRouter: 6 tests covering state initialization, tab selection, and deep linking
- ConfigPageContainer: 8 tests covering tab rendering and navigation
- ConfigPage: 3 tests for page structure
Updated Web-Development.md with tab orchestration pattern documentation.

Implement request deduplication to prevent multiple duplicate calls to GET
/api/setup when multiple components mount simultaneously. The fix introduces:
1. New 'useSharedSetupStatus' hook with module-level caching
- Shares a single in-flight request across all consumers
- Implements 30-second cache TTL with cache invalidation
- Notifies all subscribers when cache is invalidated
2. Refactored 'useSetup' hook to use shared cache
- Internally uses useSharedSetupStatus for status checks
- Calls invalidateSetupStatus() after successful setup submission
- Maintains backward-compatible API
3. Updated components using setup status
- SetupGuard and SetupPage automatically benefit from deduplication
- No changes needed to consumer code
4. Updated tests
- Mocked useSharedSetupStatus in component tests
- Added comprehensive tests for cache behavior
- All existing tests pass
5. Documentation updates
- Added 'Request Deduplication & Shared Caching' section to Web-Development.md
- Explains when and how to use shared hooks
- Provides complete implementation example
This eliminates wasted resources from duplicate API calls and potential
race conditions where different requests return slightly different states.

Previously, the tab content wrapper used 'key={tab}' which caused React to
unmount and remount the entire subtree when switching tabs. This destroyed
all component state, including unsaved form data and pending auto-saves.
Changes:
- Removed 'key={tab}' from the wrapper div
- All tab panels now render at page initialization
- Inactive tabs use CSS 'display: none' to hide without unmounting
- Tabs remain mounted throughout the page lifetime
- Users can now switch tabs without losing form input
Updated ConfigPage.test.tsx to reflect that inactive tabs remain in the DOM
(just hidden with CSS) rather than being removed entirely.
Documentation: Added 'Tab Panels' section to Web-Development.md
explaining the rule and rationale.

HistoryPage no longer requires Apply/Clear; filter state auto-syncs with query. Added guard to avoid redundant state updates. Updated task list in Docs/Tasks.md to mark completion.
Implement TASK F-2: Wrap JailDetailPage jail-control API calls in a hook.
Changes:
- Add start(), stop(), reload(), and setIdle() methods to useJailDetail hook
- Update JailDetailPage to use hook control methods instead of direct API imports
- Update error handling to remove dependency on ApiError type
- Add comprehensive tests for new control methods (8 tests)
- Update existing test to include new hook methods in mock
The control methods handle refetching jail data after each operation,
consistent with the pattern used in useJails hook.
The sha256Hex helper used window.crypto.subtle.digest(), which is only
available in a secure context (HTTPS / localhost). In the HTTP Docker
environment crypto.subtle is undefined, causing a TypeError before any
request is sent — the setup and login forms both silently failed with
'An unexpected error occurred'.
Fix: pass raw passwords directly to the API. The backend already applies
bcrypt, which is sufficient. No stored hashes need migration because
setup never completed successfully in the HTTP environment.
* frontend/src/pages/SetupPage.tsx — remove sha256Hex call
* frontend/src/api/auth.ts — remove sha256Hex call
* frontend/src/pages/__tests__/SetupPage.test.tsx — drop crypto mock
* frontend/src/utils/crypto.ts — deleted (no remaining callers)
Task 0.1: Create database parent directory before connecting
- main.py _lifespan now calls Path(database_path).parent.mkdir(parents=True,
exist_ok=True) before aiosqlite.connect() so the app starts cleanly on
a fresh Docker volume with a nested database path.
Task 0.2: SetupRedirectMiddleware redirects when db is None
- Guard now reads: if db is None or not is_setup_complete(db)
A missing database (startup still in progress) is treated as setup not
complete instead of silently allowing all API routes through.
Task 0.3: SetupGuard redirects to /setup on API failure
- .catch() handler now sets status to 'pending' instead of 'done'.
A crashed backend cannot serve protected routes; conservative fallback
is to redirect to /setup.
Task 0.4: SetupPage shows spinner while checking setup status
- Added 'checking' boolean state; full-screen Spinner is rendered until
getSetupStatus() resolves, preventing form flash before redirect.
- Added console.warn in catch block; cleanup return added to useEffect.
Also: remove unused type: ignore[call-arg] from config.py.
Tests: 18 backend tests pass; 117 frontend tests pass.
The Map tab provided a form for editing world-map color thresholds
(low, medium, high). Moving this into the Server tab consolidates all
server-side configuration in one place.
- Add map color thresholds section to ServerTab with full validation
- Load map thresholds on component mount with useEffect
- Implement auto-save for threshold changes via useAutoSave hook
- Display threshold color interpolation guide
- Remove MapTab component import from ConfigPage
- Remove 'map' from TabValue type
- Remove Map tab element from TabList
- Remove conditional render for MapTab
- Remove MapTab from barrel export (index.ts)
- Delete MapTab.tsx file
- Update ConfigPage test to remove MapTab mock
All 123 frontend tests pass.
Global tab provided the same four editable fields as Server tab:
log_level, log_target, db_purge_age, db_max_matches. Server tab already
has these fields plus additional read-only info (db_path, syslog_socket)
and a Flush Logs button.
- Add hint text to DB Purge Age and DB Max Matches fields in ServerTab
- Remove GlobalTab component import from ConfigPage
- Remove 'global' from TabValue type
- Remove Global tab element from TabList
- Remove conditional render for GlobalTab
- Remove GlobalTab from barrel export (index.ts)
- Delete GlobalTab.tsx file
- Update ConfigPage test to remove Global tab test case
All 123 frontend tests pass.
Implements the missing UI control for POST /api/jails/{name}/ignoreself:
- Add jailIgnoreSelf endpoint constant to endpoints.ts
- Add toggleIgnoreSelf(name, on) API function to jails.ts
- Expose toggleIgnoreSelf action from useJailDetail hook
- Replace read-only 'ignore self' badge with a Fluent Switch in
IgnoreListSection to allow enabling/disabling the flag per jail
- Add 5 vitest tests for checked/unchecked state and toggle behaviour
